Coversion of existing 1960's office block, to 47 no. aparments and the construction of a penthhouse fifth floor, for 7no apartments with private balconies
The existing site was an office building of 6no storeys (basement to fourth floor), constructed between 1962 and 1965. The proposed works involved the conversion of an existing office building to residential units with the addition of a new fifth floor with penthouse apartments. The initial design brief was to convert an existing 1960’s office block into 47no. Apartments. The works comprised of the complete removal of all internal office spaces and partitions up to the external walls. An addition to the works was the removal of the existing windows to be replaced with modern composite aluminium windows. This allowed for the modernisation and brightening of the existing façade thus setting it apart from the history of its office block past. The final phase of the development was the construction of a penthouse fifth floor comprising of 7no. Apartments, each with private open balconies. The modern addition brings the building into the 21st century while complimenting the renovation and change of use of the lower floor with ancillary accommodation for cycles and refuse storage areas.
